The Experience
History on the ground, learned together.
The annual Virginia Hall Memorial Trek is intended to be the Foundation’s signature field program. It will pair a guided expedition along a historically plausible Pyrenean route with instruction on Hall’s escape and the Allied networks that helped people cross borders during the war.
It will bring together Americans and participants from European and other allied countries, including college-aged students, experienced professionals, and historians.
The Educational Program
Before, during, and after.
Before departure
Assigned reading, historical briefings, and discussions with subject-matter experts.
On the route
Participants will consider the geography and recorded history together.
Afterward
Participants may contribute reflections, presentations, or public educational materials.
An Honest Account
A commemoration, not a re-enactment.
A modern guided trek cannot replicate the danger of wartime escape, and the Foundation will not suggest otherwise.
Participation
How participation is funded.
Paying participants would ordinarily cover their own direct travel costs; charitable support could fund eligible educational programming and participation based on clear selection criteria.
The proposed 2027 priorities include a second Memorial Trek with structured predeparture education.
